Last night's 2009 Federal Budget covered many areas which may affect you.
A few topics which may affect you are:
* The Superannuation concessional contribution cap being halved
* Superannuation Pension drawdown reduction being extended
* Paid parental leave for 18 weeks
* Private Health Cover Rebate reduced for high income earners
* Tax rates & thresholds confirmed
* Small business tax breaks extended
* Age Pension age increased

Also, with the end of the financial year approaching, (its hard to believe that there is less than two months to go) you should be doing a bit of planning before June 30. Have you considered the following?
· Co-contribution of $1,000 - the rules for eligibility don’t change until 2009-2010 tax year
· Pre paying some interest on investment loans – reduce your taxable income for this year.
· Additional super contributions whilst the markets are lower you are getting more investment for your dollar.
· Look at your overall Family Tax Benefit (FTB) Position – being eligible for FTB may also give you access to stimulus package payments.
· Other tax deductible investments – reduce your income for FTB
· Review your income protection and other insurances now. (income protection is also tax deductible)
